It's late on Sunday night and the room rings with the sweet sound of new Dadario strings on a Gretch Synchromatic Sparklejet - the 'Big Stupid Guitar' - the unmistakable sign that another new band has just been formed; and the quest is on for a new set-list, a new singer and a chance to gig...

...The "Music Industry" has a lot to answer for. Once upon a time, being a musician meant making music - you know; plucking strings, hitting keys, writing songs, singing - m.u.s.i.c.

These days, everybody wants to be an "American Idol", or a rock'n'roll hero or whatever the hell "famous, worshipped, rich-as-croesus, laid by beautiful women and, incidentally, playing the odd gig for money" is.

The actual playing music, loving music, enjoying music and getting together with others to make music seems to be a misunderstood and rarely successful process.

This blog is about one musician's, 'quest for the holy gig' and all the bullshit you have to go through to make it happen.
